GirlFight !!! by

It’s about to be a what…….GIRLFIGHT!

Women have elevated Detroit Hip Hop with an
event that has become a must attend party called
GIRLFIGHT. This showcase has some of the most
talented female MC’s and was created by one of the
most successful Hip Hop promoters in Detroit Nikki
Cola. Girlfight seems to be the revival that Detroit
has been looking for. The first Showcase was started
in October and since its birth, the last Tuesday of
each month has been dedicated to the ladies.
The concept of Girlfight has never been
negative, but a metaphor describing the fight women
have to endure to make it in the male dominated
business of Hip Hop. The irony of Girlfight is all
the girls support each other and have developed a bond
of sisters that take pride in being a part of the
Girlfight series. Febuary 27, 2007 was the sixth
round of the Girlfight series that brought some of the
best of the best to Alvin’s. This series featured
such talents as Crème, Heavon, Princess Cut, Fiyah,
and XL just to name a few. Each girl brought a sexy,
strong energy to the stage that just shined. Redbone
was the hostess with the mostess and like always she
kept the energy flowing. During the course of the
night word spread that Girlfight will be aired from
9-10 pm on Fridays on one of the #1 Hip Hop radio
stations in Detroit, FM 98 WJLB. This is a huge
accomplishment since for the past 10 yrs or more
Detroit Hip Hop has been ignored by the local radio
stations. The
greatest part of Girlfight is, Hip Hop has always
been stereotyped as a music form that degrades women,
now women are exerting their femininity and strength
proving that Hip Hop never degraded women it only made
them stronger. Girlfight has revived Hip Hop in
Detroit and proved that Ladies are always FIRST!

Just
because pimps are crossing over into pop culture and hanging
out with your favorite rappers, don't get it twisted,
these
are not entertainers.
DJ Ivory of the P
Brothers hails from
Nottingham
in the U.K. This hip hop purist has a strong
opinion on hip hop's current state. Check out what he
has to stay. Detroit female author
Valencia
Williams keeps it
all the
way street with her tales of love, greed and betrayal
based in the hood. I had the opportunity to interview
Valencia and she had some very interesting things to say.
For all my grown folks who know of my
reputation
for being involved in some freaky sh#t, don't worry. I
didn't forget about you. I'm going to crank up the heat
