The Scene: Lead by Tech N9ne, the underground KC movement is on the rise, though there are not as many shows in KC as there should be. Because of rowdy fans that get out of control, hip hop shows have been limited to a few venues in Springfield and Topeka.  The shows that do take place are usually sparsely attended. Both Springfield and Topeka have immensely talented artists, but the violence at the shows has definitely put a damper on things.

Artists on the rise: Kansas City-Tech N9ne has sold hundreds of thousands of copies and tours worldwide.  Others to mention are 3rd Degree, Donta Slusha, Kutt Calhoun and B-G Bulletwound.

Springfield-Laddie LexxLou has taken the title "Midwest King" after underground rapper Ruka Puff from St. Louis stated LexxLou is the future of hip hop.
